OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER MONTH

Dear Sisters and Brothers from Africa,

I would like to inform you that cancers are killing our children, our sisters, our mothers, our fathers and brothers every day.

Many studies about cancers in Africa show that cancers cases are rising more than 7.5 percent a year over the 30 years period studied or more than twice the global rate. Also by 2020, African states will account for more than a million new cancer cases per year out of a total of 16-million cases worldwide. Africa remains the continent least prepared to cope with the devastating effects of this new pandemic.

This new pandemic patients are dealing with sadness, depression, anger, denial, loneliness, fear, guilt and worry. I know that for sure because I visit hospitals in Africa every year. Each time, I seat and talk directly to cancers patients and their families.

Some patients don't eat 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner);
Some patients don't get beds to sleep on so they sleep on the floor;
Some patients don't get their treatment on time;
Some patients can't afford their prescriptions or other tests;

So Please Help Cancers Patients In Your Birth Countries.

When you help one cancer patient, it not only touches her or his life, but that of her or his family, her or his community, her or his country, and the world we live in. As we say often: One person can change anything; but people can change everything.

There are many reasons to feel hopeful. There are millions of cancer survivors living today and with technology and money being spent on research, one day soon there will be a cure. Cancers are no longer necessarily a death sentence. Though it is serious, and yes, some do not survive, many live long and productive lives even with advanced stages of cancers.

Thank you for being part of the change
Gratefully,

MRS. TRAORE SIRA SOUMANO
